Worker Suffers Fatal Injuries in Construction Site Accident

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, a construction worker died in Pleasant Prairie, Wisc. after suffering serious injuries from a water main burst.

While working with a crew on a water main on the 9300 block of Sheridan Road, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. The initial reports indicated that the valve had burst as the crew was working on the pipe, causing fatal injuries to the worker.

A second worker was also hurt, but their injuries were minor.

According to police, the workers identity was not immediately disclosed out of respect for the family and until relatives had been notified.

"The Pleasant Prairie Police Department extends its condolences to the co-workers and family affected by this tragic event," officials said in news release.

Pleasant Prairie Police and fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene where the 34-year old man was pronounced dead.

Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigators were also called and responded. OSHA will be leading the investigation.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is currently replacing a box culvert at Barnes Creek and a segment of Sheridan Road has been closed between 91st Street and Highway 165 since July 5.
