Starting Monday, May 22, a road and bridge construction project being completed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will cause travel delays along I-75 in northern Oakland County lasting the next four years.
The $160 million project will include repaving 15 miles of I-75 between M-15 or Ortonville Road and the Oakland-Genesse county line. Eleven bridges on that line will also be repaired.
Construction starts Monday, May 22, on the Belford, Davisburg and Holcomb roads overpasses. All three bridges will be closed through July with some lane closures possible underneath on I-75.
MDOT will be making pavement repairs and installing temporary crossover lanes in the median beginning May 30 through late fall 2023. At least two lanes of traffic will be open in both direction on I-75 most of the time.
Beginning in 2024, contractors will mill and resurface 15 miles of the northbound lanes. Traffic in both directions will be shifted to the southbound side with two lanes open in either direction. The project will switch sides in 2025 with milling and resurfacing on the southbound side.
During repaving work progresses in 2024 and 2025, culverts, guardrails and signs will be replaced on either side of the freeway.
During the final year of construction in 2026, crossover lanes and miscellaneous work will be removed to complete the project.
