Two ongoing major road work projects in Kenosha, Wisconsin are expected to continue for several months.

Work on 22nd Avenue and Washington Road have been under construction at various times the past couple of years. The next phases of construction will bring water main reconstruction and improvements to intersections.

22nd Avenue is currently reduced to one lane of southbound traffic between 85th and 89th Streets. Northbound traffic is detoured from 89th Street to 30th Avenue to 85th Street and traffic in all directions is maintained at the 85th Street and 22nd Avenue intersection.

According to city engineer Gregory Boldt, work on the 22nd Avenue reconstruction project began in 2017.

Boldt said the project is going well and on schedule. Currently, crews are replacing the existing concrete pavement and asphalt, installing new traffic signals at the 22nd Avenue and 85th Street intersection, and making water man and sewer improvements.

Work on Washington Road west of 39th Avenue is underway, with reconstruction and resurfacing work to begin in June after water main work by the Kenosha Water utility is completed.

Boldt said crews will realign the inside section of the Washington Road and 39th Avenue and add left turn lanes.

According to city plans, the improvements are meant to address high crash rates at the intersection after the resurfacing project was funded through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Highway Safety Improvement Program which funds projects at sites that have a history of high crash rates.

After reconstruction is complete, a planned Washington Road resurfacing project from 32nd Avenue to Green Bay Road can begin, likely in early August.

Both the 22nd Avenue and Washington Road projects are likely to be complete this fall.
