The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that repairs are scheduled this week for the southbound Interstate 83 bridge spanning Market Street in York County. Once work is complete, the ramp from Market Street to I-83 will open to traffic.
Repairs will be performed on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and Thursday, Oct. 12, weather permitting.
According to a press release from PennDOT, the repairs will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11. A right lane restriction will be in place on eastbound Market Street during work hours.
Depending on how much work is left to be completed will determine when the repairs are completed on Oct. 12. Work may be performed during the same hours or if more time is needed, from 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. An updated release will be issued when Thursday’s work schedule is known.
The ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 will open to traffic when the repairs are completed.
In the meantime, a detour for the Market Street ramp to southbound I-83 remains in place using Belmont Street to southbound I-83.
A steel beam on the bridge was damaged several years ago by a vehicle strike. A recent bridge inspection revealed further deterioration to the beam. To ensure the safety of the traveling public, the ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 was closed.
